Directional Wave Spectra Sensing Module for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Gliders
Areté is developing a commercially available, open-source, Common Wave Sensing Module (CWSM) that delivers high-quality, reliable, and accurate wave measurements from a variety of autonomous ocean platforms. These platforms include underwater gliders, surface floats, and other autonomous marine vehicles. By enabling consistent and standardized wave sensing across multiple platforms, the CWSM will support a broad spectrum of oceanographic, environmental, and operational applications—from scientific research to naval operations. Areté is a leading-edge technology company with more than four decades of experience developing advanced sensors for the Navy. In this effort, Areté has partnered with Teledyne and Rutgers University to integrate CWSM into Teledyne’s Slocum Glider. We are seeking transition partners and defense customers to support CWSM adoption and integration across Navy gliders and autonomous systems.
Areté will improve wave forecasting and tactical decision making through enhanced knowledge of the ocean state. The Common Wave Sensing Module comprises processing software that extends on proven open‑source software and a low SWaP‑C hardware module for sensing platform motion.
